About SOS
www.SuppliesOverSeas.org
SOS is a medical surplus recovery organization (MSRO) – the only organization of its kind in Kentucky and one of only 15 MSRO’s in the country. Founded in 1993 by Dr. Norton Waterman and the Greater Louisville Medical Society (GLMS), SOS partners with hospitals and other health institutions to recover surplus medical supplies that would otherwise go into our landfills. These supplies are brought to our warehouse where volunteers sort, count, box and inventory the items until they are requested to be shipped to medically impoverished communities around the world. SOS wraps environmental stewardship, humanitarian aid and global health improvement into a single mission. In 2013, SOS diverted 118 tons of surplus medical supplies from our landfills and shipped over 135 tons of medical supplies and equipment to communities in need globally. In our 20-year history, SOS has shipped to over 101 countries in the world.
